In 2021 I was release from prison after doing 5 years. After being released, I started working dead ends jobs to get back in the working environment. Within a year, I was introduced to the What’s Next Program. I attended the information session and decided to enroll into the CDL course which is one of the best decision I’ve ever made. After completing the 5 weeks CDL course, I took the license exam and pass. Within one week I had a job offer. The job was based in Texas. The company paid for my flight and hotel accommodation for the training period. After training, I went to another who paid more and was able to get my own truck. What’s Next was the best choice I made for me and my long term goals. I was about to start my own trucking company and you will see my company on the road soon.

“The program was a great experience for me. My instructor was a great tutor and was phenomenal with teaching hands on work. The program actually boosted my life because I had done several odd and end jobs that only paid between $11 or $12 an hour. However, after the class ended, I got my first job as a maintenance supervisor, and this is a passion of mine. I recommend the What’s Next program for many people. It is a good organization and has a plan for you to follow.”

I would like to thank the city of Newport News for their What’s Next program with Virginia Peninsula Community College. I took interest in the Phlebotomy program, where I gained a vast knowledge of venipuncture. The instructor was very knowledgeable and very patient with each and every student. We had plenty of practice material and an abundance of resources. I highly recommend anyone to take full advantage of this great program opportunity, I am truly proud of my city for this amazing program What’s next for the opportunity.
